Reverse Phone Directory

A reverse phone lookup is a "backward" directory. The type of phone book that gets delivered to our door steps is a "forward" directory. This is what we are all used to. A phone book contains a list of names in alphabetical order and then lists the owners phone number and address. A reverse directory is where you have a phone number but not the owners name or address. These types of phone directories are typically found on the Internet. All you do is enter a phone number (cell or land-line) and you instantly get the owners name and address.

However there is one small catch. Most of these reverse directories only contain a limited list of land-line phone numbers and not cell phone numbers or fax numbers. Cell phone numbers are controlled by the private carriers and there are many private carriers these days. This is where the fee based reverse directories come in. Internet based reverse directories operate on a pay for service basis. This is because a considerable amount of time and effort goes in to gathering all these numbers from multiple telephone and cell phone companies.

The good news is that these fees are rather small and come with several payment options. The smallest fee will be a one time fee for a one time use. This type of fee is typically around $15. A better deal would be a larger fee for unlimited use. These fees could be up to about $40 and for some of these directories may be based on a per year arrangement. This larger fee for unlimited use is certainly the best deal. It is hardly ever the case when a person will pay the one-time smaller fee, get the information the need, and then never use the service again. In fact, most people who use these services are so satisfied and impressed with the accuracy and amount of information the receive they can never forget the service and return to use it time and time again.

Many people who use this type of service are surprised to learn that such information can be so easily obtained with just the push of a button and for phone numbers that are supposed to be unlisted. Unlisted numbers are usually made at the request of the phone’s owner but this request is made with their phone’s carrier company and does not ensure that their phone number will remain unlisted in these private directories.

If you wish to keep your phone number unlisted in these phone directories you have the option of paying a small fee to keep people from finding your private information. This fee is a one-time fee and is typically around $5. You may feel this is completely unfair but it is similar to what happened when caller ID was first invented. With caller ID you could determine who was calling you before you picked up the phone. This little convenience was soon followed by caller ID blocker. Both caller ID and caller ID blocker were fee based. You payed an extra monthly fee for caller ID to identify who was calling you then you would have to pay and additional monthly fee if you did not want someone using caller ID on you when you called them. This is just the price we pay for technology.
